Whale sharks are majestic gentle giants. Growing up to 12 m in length, they are the largest fish in the ocean. They have around 3,000 tiny teeth that they use to filter vast quantities of seawater for their food – plankton. Their intricate body markings are unique to each individual and it’s thought that they may be used for social interactions with other whale sharks.

Wally Whale Shark, one of three whale sharks that I’ve painted over the years, was splashed down in 2016, the early days of my illustrating. At the time, he was painted due to so many people requesting him, rather than I having experienced swimming with such an incredible animal. All these years on and I have grown a fondness for him and alas, have still not had the pleasure of seeing one with my own eyes. One day.

Print is of an original, hand painted watercolour and ink illustration. Open edition.
